Dextro returns with a fourth album, ‘An Hour is a Sea’: a two part musical journey with a series of movements within each piece.
Since 2001, Dextro has been drumming and droning ambient soundscapes and hypnotic patterns, resulting in four albums and a string of EPs. His music has been released by the likes of Border Community (James Holden), Grönland (Neu! / Harmonia) and appeared on an ambient music collection from A Strangely Isolated Place. He has remixed artists such as Bonobo (Ninja Tune) and been remixed by Clark (Warp) amongst others, and performed alongside electronic and ambient legends such as Nathan Fake, Loscil and Adam Betts. Despite the connections, Dextro remains a somewhat underground character, sporadically performing live shows and often self-releasing music on his own 16k records imprint.
An Hour is a Sea takes Dextro into new musical territory shaped by ethereal ambience and drone, infinity guitar, candid beats and glistening synths. Dextro continues to craft principally instrumental pieces built from self-made recordings of guitar, drums, piano, synths and field recordings. An Hour is a Sea is born out of Dextro’s live performances, where a series of movements intertwine to create a journey that seeks to reframe our individualistic conceptions of time and place them in a deeper ecological context.
